Growing up in Hawaiʻi, home was more than a place—it was a deep sense of belonging rooted in the islands’ culture, landscapes, and traditions, a feeling I continue to navigate alongside other locals who have moved to the mainland. Carrying Home pairs documentary photographs with portraits and quotes from Hawaiʻi-born young adults and adults, revealing shared experiences of longing, adaptation, and resilience as we build new lives without losing our roots. Through this collective narrative, the project explores identity and displacement, inviting viewers to reflect on their own connections to home and the enduring strength of the Hawaiian spirit wherever it resides.
