Carrying
Home
Growing up in HawaiΚ»i, home was more than a placeβit was a deep sense of belonging rooted in the islandsβ culture, landscapes, and traditions, a feeling I continue to navigate alongside other locals who have moved to the mainland. Carrying Home pairs documentary photographs with portraits and quotes from HawaiΚ»i-born young adults and adults, revealing shared experiences of longing, adaptation, and resilience as we build new lives without losing our roots. Through this collective narrative, the project explores identity and displacement, inviting viewers to reflect on their own connections to home and the enduring strength of the Hawaiian spirit wherever it resides.
Gallery Show
Carrying Home was exhibited at the RedLine Contemporary Art Center, part of the University of Colorado Denver Visual Arts BFA Thesis show, from April 26th to May 10th, 2025.
